Associate Professor Samuel Maling wins NIH Grant

Mbarara University of science and Technology (MUST) together with Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) won an NIH grant entitled “Oral diseases and quality of life in older adults on ART in Uganda (ODQoL-UG)”. Grant Number: 1R21DE031981-01A1

The Principal Investigators of the multidisciplinary team are Assoc. Prof. Samuel Maling Psychiatry Department (MUST) and Dr. Steffany Chamut Villarreal. Harvard Medical School (USA). The other investigators are Drs. Deusdedit Tusubira Biochemistry (MUST), Wilfred Arubaku Dental Surgery (MUST), Brittany Seymour (HSDM) and Mark Siedner (MGH)

The project’s overarching goal is to elucidate the impacts of multimorbidity and mental health on oral health and quality of life for people with HIV, and to explore the mechanisms of integration of oral health services into routine HIV care in the context of rural Sub-Saharan Africa.

Congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Maling and the entire team for winning such a notable grant. This not only increases MUST’S viability but also impacts communities through giving hope the victims.
