Students Housing
MUST has four residential Hostels – 2 at the town campus and 2 at the Kihumuro campus. These hostels accommodate about 500 undergraduate students which is about 10% of the total student enrolment at MUST. Students with Special needs are given priority in the University hostels and the rest are considered on first come first serve basis. There are a number of private hostels available to students within the environs of the University that have been inspected and deemed fit for occupation.Â
Private Hostels
Before the beginning of the academic year the Dean of Students Department, in conjunction with MUST security personnel and Mbarara City authorities, inspects private hostel facilities and makes appropriate recommendations on minimum safety and hygiene standards. The private hostel owners are responsible for the management and maintenance of their premises.
As a student, take note of the following:
- Ensure you get documentation e.g. receipt for any money you pay to the landlord or their staff
- Any agreed terms should be in writing – in case of one of the parties forgetting.
- Make sure you pay the agreed upon amount – DON’T CHEAT hostel owners – if they report to us it becomes a case for disciplinary action
- Use the student leaders of the different off campus hostel locations in case of any challenges. Find out who they are from the Students Guild office
FOOD SERVICESÂ
Catering
There are privately run canteens/cafeterias within the University and at the different hostels that sell foods and beverages to students at affordable prices.
Meals
- There are Service Providers at the university hostels are contracted by the University to operate a cash cafeteria
- The students should make arrangements to get in touch with the cafeteria services.
As a department we do monitor the cafeteria services to ensure the standards of hygiene and food safety are maintained.
