A fitting tribute to Dr. Situma

On August 1st, 2024, the Faculty of Medicine at MUST held the second memorial lecture in honor of the late Dr. Situma. The event was themed “Selfless Service for Communities and Enviable Passion for Pediatric Surgery,” a fitting tribute to the life and work of the esteemed pediatrician.

Sponsored by Bethany Kids, where Dr. Situma served as a mentor and dedicated pediatrician before joining MUST, the event was also supported by MRRH and the university.

Dr. Dan Kisitu Kyengera, Head of Department, provided heartfelt insights into Dr. Situma’s character, passion, and compassion. The progress of pediatrics and child surgical care at MRRH, built upon Dr. Situma’s legacy, was highlighted by Dr. Kumbakumba Elias, HoD Pediatrics and child care , and Dr. Felix Onyia the head pediatrics Surgical unit.

     

The Country Director of Bethany Kids  Represented by Mr. Ivan shared the realization of Dr. Situma’s dreams, leading to the memorial lecture delivered by Professor David Kitya, a close colleague of the late doctor. The Situma family also shared cherished memories of their beloved family member.

Dr. Deus Twesigye, Hospital Director, acknowledged Dr. Situma’s invaluable contributions and emphasized his unwavering dedication to children. He commended the Department of Surgery for organizing the memorial lecture to honor the legend.

The Dean of the Medical School, Dr. Joseph Ngonzi, expressed gratitude to the department for keeping Dr. Situma’s memory alive. As the Dean FoM I could never ask for more, thank you Daniel and your team.” He pledged his full support for the ongoing celebration of Dr. Situma’s selfless service and love for his work. The Dean also extended sincere thanks to Bethany Kids Uganda for their partnership in this noble cause.

The event concluded with a warm and convivial lunch, providing an opportunity for attendees to connect and share memories of Dr. Situma.     Continue to sleep with the Angels our legend.
