On July 15, 2024 – A five-day Simulation for Life Foundations training kicked off at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). The intensive training brought together medical students from Aga Khan University (Nairobi), Moi University (Eldoret), Gertrude’s Institute of Child Health and Research, and the host institution.
The training commenced with welcoming remarks from Assoc. Prof. Joseph Ngonzi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at MUST.
He expressed enthusiasm for hosting the participants and emphasized the importance of continuous learning in healthcare. Ngonzi highlighted the role of simulation in preparing future healthcare professionals.
Dr. Omolo Ronald initiated the training with a teamwork and cooperation session, followed by Dr. Flavia’s in-depth exploration of simulation theory. Participants were then immersed in a debriefing session after a simulation scenario, led by a team of experts including Dr. Data Santarino, Amon Nimusiima, Dr. Omolo Ronald, Josephine Najjuma and Dr. Flavia Tumwebaze.
On the final day, Martin Mukama from Camtech Uganda introduced participants to the SimSync application. Dr. Flavia Tumwebaze facilitated a peer-to-peer learning activity using a maze game, emphasizing the collaborative nature of learning and its impact on decision-making, situational awareness, and patient care.
The training concluded with a demonstration session on peer-to-peer learning by Dr. Flavia Tumwebaze.
