Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) Merit Based Scholarships for Needy Students

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the HIGHER EDUCATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (HEST) MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS for needy students at Undergraduate and Postgraduate Level at MUST for the Academic Year 2016/2017

  1. TARGET GROUP

MUST students in the following programmes:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science
  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Bachelor of Science with Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Gender and Applied Women Health
  • Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Livelihoods and Farm Production
  • Bachelor of Computer Science
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
  • All Masters programmes in Faculty of Medicine
  • All Masters programmes at Institute of Computer Science
  • Master of Science in Biology/Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics

 

  1. Eligibility

2.1 Undergraduate Scholarship

  1. Ugandan students of 30 years and below.
  2. Admitted to MUST on private sponsorship scheme.
  3. Having a GPA of not less than 2.80
  4. NOT admitted on Uganda Government sponsorship to any public university.
  5. NOT holding any other scholarship.
  6. Only continuing students are eligible.

2.2 Graduate Scholarship (Masters)

  1. Ugandan Students of 40 years and below.
  2. Continuing MUST graduate student.
  3. Having a GPA of not less than 3.60
  4. NOT holding any other Scholarship.
  5. Students should be from science based programmes
  6. Preference shall be given to staff from MUST.

 

  1. Application Procedure

3.1 Undergraduate Scholarship

The applicant shall submit the following:

  1. A filled application form (obtained from the AR’s office or website).
  2. A 500 words motivation/personal statement detailing cause for support.
  3. A copy of an admission letter to MUST.
  4. Letter of recommendation from the Head Teacher of the A-level school attended.
  5. A copy of endorsement by the LC1 of the District of Residence [this could be the LC endorsement earlier submitted for admission].
  6. A copy of the applicant’s Birth Certificate;
  7. Hand drawn physical map of LC1/ village of residence with clear directions of how to get to the home of residence (indicate approximate distances in kilometers).
  8. University Identity card.

3.1 Graduate Scholarship (Masters)

The applicant shall submit the following:

  1. A filled application form (obtained from the AR’s office or website).
  2. A 700 words motivation/personal statement detailing cause for support.
  3. A copy of Admission letter to MUST.
  4. A copy of a partial transcript.
  5. A copy of endorsement by the LC1 of the District of Residence [this could be the LC endorsement earlier submitted for admission].
  6. A copy of the applicants’ Birth Certificate.

 

Once awarded a scholarship

Candidates should be able to demonstrate high academic ability and discipline.

 

  1. Scholarship Coverage

         The scholarship shall be on a cost sharing basis as outlined below:

  1. Tuition and any other institutional related fees shall be made directly to MUST.
  2. The award covers only the years specified for the program.
  3. Being asked to repeat due to poor academic performance automatically leads to cancellation of the scholarship.
  4. Failure to complete studies and graduate shall require the student to refund all the money spent on him/her.
  5. The program shall NOT meet any other expenses apart from those specified in the award letter.
  6. Accommodation and upkeep shall be met by the student.
  7. Retake fees shall not be covered by the scholarship.

 

  1. Note
  1. Incomplete applications shall be automatically disqualified.
  2. Cases of impersonation, falsification of documents or giving false/incomplete information, whenever discovered either at the time of receiving the award or afterwards shall lead to automatic cancellation of the award, refund of the money already spent on beneficiary/prosecution in the courts of Law of Uganda.
  3. The deadline for submission of completed applications to the Office of the Academic Registrar at MUST shall be Friday 1st April 2016.
